BEEF were fortunate to receive £15,000 from Arts Council England to fund our activity and programme from October 2018 – March 2020 and we did ALOT during this time! We made the most of the time we had remaining at the Brunswick Club and despite our unfortunate eviction, we managed to pull off a full packed programme hosting workshops, residencies and talks out of our new home in Pennywell Studios and working with local and national venues and partners for other live events.

We wanted to reflect on what we’ve achieved and share what we’ve been up to over this time so here is a wee run down……..

We were delighted to be invited to Birmingham to present a back-to-back programme of performance, film and sound from BEEF members ‘designed to ignite your retinas and vibrate your tectorial membranes’.

Into the Mothlight

BEEF met with Into the Mothlight at Brunswick Club to talk to them about what we do. ITM is a podcast dedicated to artists’ moving image, experimental film and festivals and installation art. You can listen to BEEF’s podcast below……..

Go Go Go! Women in Experimental Animation

This funding enabled us to programme a 3 part film series of work by international artists curated by BEEF member Vicky Smith and taking place at the Cube Cinema, Bristol. This is the first time we have been able to develop such an ambitious programme due to the costs associated with screening and distribution.

“(The Go Go Go programme) was a great selection of work and a chance to see rare work on 16mm film and learn more about a new genre I haven’t experienced much” audience member

“Through working on the Go Go Go programme I learnt more about my subject area through researching the field and also through collaboration with BEEF members. I learnt particularly about US womens’ animation; I gained more experience of working with others to conduct tasks, including: preparing and proofing copy; liaising with printers and international distributors; the mechanisms of shipping film prints; working with and delegating to an intern and also downloading and organizing screening materials As a result of the activity I now have increased confidence with curating – seeking out patterns of practice and considering how best to represent a broad field to new audience I have greater knowledge of film distribution and also of working closely with others” Vicky Smith, BEEF Member
